The 2024 TCS New York City Marathon, held on Sunday, November 3, became the world’s largest marathon with 55,646 total finishers. The TCS New York City Marathon, is one of 60 adult and youth races produced by nonprofit New York Road Runners. The iconic race is one of the most inclusive and accessible sporting events in the world, with the first finisher and the final finisher running the same course on the same day. For CrowdRx, it was an opportunity to demonstrate our commitment to athlete safety and provide comprehensive medical services to this historic event
A Team Effort
Our team, in collaboration with 2,100 medical volunteers and 265 CrowdRx staff, provided comprehensive medical services. This collective effort ensured a robust medical response system, ready to address any potential health issues.
A Unified Command Center for Enhanced Coordination
CrowdRx played a key role in the Unified Command Center, a collaborative effort involving NYRR, NYPD, FDNY, JTTF, and other key stakeholders. This centralized command center facilitated seamless communication and coordination among all agencies, ensuring a unified response to any eventuality. Our trained Emergency Medical Dispatchers (EMD) were able to receive and dispatch incidents in real-time, optimizing response times and improving overall efficiency.
Leveraging Technology for Efficient Operations
The Unified Command Center utilized advanced technology to optimize medical operations. In addition to a suite of other software, CrowdRx deployed Team Awareness Kit (TAK), a powerful tactical situational awareness tool, to enhance communication and coordination among our field teams.
How TAK Enhanced Our Operations
- Real-time Tracking: We monitored the progress of Bike Response Units (BRUs), Quick Response Teams (QRTs), Gator Crews, Ambulances, and Foot Crews in real-time.
- Efficient Coordination: Dispatchers could pinpoint incident locations and share them directly with responders for faster response times.
- Enhanced Communication: Real-time updates kept everyone informed of responding unit locations and potential delays.
A Multi-Layered Medical Response Network
To effectively cover the expansive race course, we deployed a multi-layered medical response network, including:
- 25 Course Medical Tents strategically positioned along the route
- 20 Bike Response Units for rapid mobile assistance
- 11 UTV Response Teams for swift interventions in critical situations
- 4 Start Line Medical Tents for pre-race medical checks
- 11 Finish Line Medical Tents for post-race care
Seamless Integration with Emergency Services
CrowdRx worked closely with Network Ambulances to ensure seamless coordination and rapid transportation for runners requiring advanced medical attention. This collaboration was crucial in providing timely and effective care.
A Commitment to Excellence
By meticulously planning, deploying a highly skilled medical team, and collaborating effectively with emergency services and other key stakeholders, CrowdRx contributed to the overall success of the 2024 TCS New York City Marathon.
