On May 18th, 2024, CrowdRx was proud to provide comprehensive medical services for the 42nd RBC Brooklyn Half. This year’s event was a monumental occasion, hosting more than 28,000 runners, thereby becoming the largest half marathon in the country in 2024 and the largest in the event’s history. The race, an annual tradition for over four decades, offers a unique 13.1-mile tour of Brooklyn, concluding at the iconic Coney Island boardwalk. This year also marked the inaugural partnership between CrowdRx and New York Road Runners (NYRR), the nonprofit organization responsible for producing 60 adult and youth events annually.
Pre-Race Preparation
Our involvement began long before race day. CrowdRx worked closely with NYRR to develop a comprehensive medical plan, integrating an Incident Command Structure (ICS), tailored specifically for the RBC Brooklyn Half.
Race Day Support
On the day of the race, our experienced medical staff, consisting of emergency medical technicians, paramedics, registered nurses, and emergency physicians, were strategically positioned throughout the racecourse and at the finish line. Our teams, equipped with Quick Response Vehicles (QRVs) and Bike Response Units (BRUs), were ready to respond to any medical emergencies. Fully-equipped medical tents at the finish line served as central hubs for providing immediate care to runners upon completion of the race.
We addressed a range of medical issues, from minor ailments such as cramps and dehydration to more severe injuries. Our efficient and responsive care ensured that runners could safely continue their journey or receive necessary treatment without delay.
CrowdRx is grateful to all of the NYRR medical volunteers who graciously gave their time and skillsets to assist in covering the course and its participants. These volunteers not only have a passion for running but the expertise to assist in a variety of ways.
